FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Why trust 406 Infrared? We have a passion for non-destructive investigation and a knack for effectively communitcating our findings...no matter how big or small the job! In a rapidly evolving and technologically-forward industry, we are constantly pursing the next certification or skillset. With years of experience across multiple industries that benefit from - and often require - periodic thermal inspections, we have honed our ability to perform at the highest levels. As Certified Level 1 Thermographers, we are uniquely qualified to provide these services and give you the best results, every time.
-
What are the benefits of a thermal inspection?Infrared technology allows us to identify all sorts of problems that otherwise remain invisible until it's too late. By finding and addressing these concerns early with thermography (moisture intrusion, faulty electrical connections, malfunctioning controls, etc) our clients have enjoyed a safer work environment and have saved sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars or more in repairs or losses due to what would have been unplanned downtime or further damage.
-
How long does a thermal inspection take?Depending on the size and scope of the work, a thorough scan can take anywhere from a few hours for a residential energy assessment or blower door/duct tests to a few days for a hyperscale data center or large PV inspection. We use a high definition, infrared-equipped drone to rapidly assess large or tall objects like flat roofs, solar fields, highrise buildings, and substation overhead connections. This state-of-the-art technology drastically decreases billable hours while increasing accuracy and image quality for the most detailed findings in the industry.
-
Why perform a Blower Door or Duct Test? Our blower door and duct fan systems allow us to create negative pressure throughout a building or HVAC system and precisely measure how air tight the envelope is. Even a well-insulated building that is not air tight will experience significant energy loss and can expect greater utility expenses. Same with leaky duct work - finding and sealing that air you have already paid to condition means more $$$ in your pocket! Combined with thermography, we will quickly pinpoint where these "loose" areas are that, once addressed, can greatly improve energy efficiency!
-
What areas do you serve? We are based in the Bitterroot Valley of Western Montana but are happy to go where needed! Most of our residential work is local, but with data centers, industrial manufacturing plants, and solar operations popping up all over the U.S. to meet rising demand, we're happy to make the trip to support these important industries.

Are you OSHA-30 Certified? Arc Flash Trained? NFPA 70E (2021)?Yes, yes, and yes. While our OSHA and NFPA certifications carry over to various jobsites, arc flash is often site-specific. If required for your site, we will plan accordingly, attend the necessary training, and add that sticker to our growing collection on our hard hats!
